On August 12, 2024, we broke ground on the new Epps Memorial Library. After a fire destroyed the previous temporary location in late 2023, the Calcasieu Parish Public Library partnered with the City of Lake Charles to open a new temporary site inside the Corporal Donald Ray Stevens Community Center. This location opened on March 25, 2024, welcomed 6,583 visits in 2024, and will remain open until the new library is complete.
Bringing the library to you! Calcasieu Parish Public Library cardholders can now use the Neighborhood Library Boxes to browse and check out items, pick up holds, and return materials—all close to home.

The Create & Make labs at the Central and DeQuincy branches opened in February 2025. Favorite activities include using the sewing machine, book‑binding supplies, and the Cricut Maker. The labs also offer an embroidery machine, a laser cutter, jewelry‑making tools, and other creative equipment.
Meet Torrey Guidry, Community Enrichment Manager, and explore how the Library’s Outreach Department connects with the community.
What motivates Torrey personally to work in library outreach? “I have a great passion for all things LIBRARY! I love talking to people at events about all the wonderful things they have access to with their library card. I’m motivated when I see patrons get genuinely excited about the information I provide. Many of our Library To-Go patrons do not have constant care and spend a large part (if not all) of their days alone. Being able to read or listen to a book selected specifically for them not only provides a source of entertainment, but also a sense of dignity and self-worth.”
